The ability to sing well is only one factor in becoming a successful performer. This program is designed for professionals or aspiring professionals and will address the elements beyond the voice to further the chances of a successful career. Topics will include business strategies for the artist, strategic networking, developing a personal brand, using social media as an advantage, succeeding in an audition, and building an audience by making connections with the appropriate leaders in the industry.

Considerations when coaching

Select the Right Repertoire: Choose pieces that showcase your strengths and highlight your vocal range and dramatic abilities. It's important to select pieces that are appropriate for your voice type and level of experience.

2. Prepare Thoroughly: Practice your pieces extensively, paying close attention to diction, phrasing, and musicality. Memorize your pieces so that you can focus on your performance during the audition.

3. Show Your Personality: Opera auditions are not only about vocal ability but also about stage presence and personality. Show your unique personality and interpretation during your performance.

4. Dress Professionally: Dress in a way that is appropriate for the audition and shows your respect for the art form.

5. Be Prepared for Sight-Singing and Sight-Reading: In addition to performing your prepared pieces, be prepared for sight-singing and sight-reading exercises that demonstrate your ability to learn music quickly.

6. Show Confidence and Poise: Show confidence and poise throughout the audition, from your introduction to your exit. This will help you make a positive impression on the audition panel.

7. Follow Up: After the audition, follow up with a thank-you note to the audition panel. This demonstrates your professionalism and can help keep you in their minds for future opportunities.

Remember that the audition process is subjective, and even the most talented singers may not always get the roles they audition for. However, by preparing thoroughly and showcasing your best abilities, you can give yourself the best chance for success in the opera industry.
